Supporting Educational Equity Through Digital Tools
Challenging Education is a consultancy founded by former school leaders who are passionate about improving life chances for disadvantaged learners. Their RADY (Raising the Attainment of Disadvantaged Youngsters) strategy is used by schools to close attainment gaps and ensure high expectations are embedded across classrooms. The Recorded RADY programme was introduced as a digital, video-led offering to help schools implement RADY at their own pace over 12 months.
Initially, Challenging Education approached us to help stabilise and maintain their existing WordPress website. From there, our partnership grew into a fully bespoke development project that now enables schools to register, access protected content, and manage their learning independently.
Building a Platform That Grows With the Vision
The original website wasn’t meeting the demands of the Recorded RADY service – the content was inaccessible to many users and hard to manage internally. We began by improving the structure and hosting, then gradually extended the platform’s capabilities with new features tailored to how schools wanted to engage with the programme.
We introduced a secure login system that gives schools exclusive access to course content, while developing user management tools for Challenging Education’s team to control registrations and monitor activity. As the programme grew in reach, so did the technical demands, which we addressed by creating a scalable solution for admin to control data all behind a clean, user-friendly interface.
The result is a platform that balances simplicity for users with powerful tools behind the scenes.
Removing Barriers to Access
To support even greater impact, we also built an application system for free access to the Recorded RADY programme, funded by the charity Achieve Equity. This additional functionality allows individuals in need to apply for support directly through the website, streamlining the process for both applicants and administrators. It’s easy for the admin users to see and review the application along with accepting new users onto the platform. Inbuilt tools help to monitor the impact for the user of the 12-18 month access. Admin staff can run reports to see how the users answers to set questions changed from the application stage to the end of the course.
By designing the system with empathy and efficiency in mind, we ensured that applying for this support is simple, secure, and inclusive, reflecting the values at the heart of RADY.
