Whilst we can toot our own horns and provide a vast portfolio that weaves in and out of many different sectors, and talk about the successful working relationships we’ve made with clients along the way such as Cox & Plant, Carwood Brise, Ritchie, Aproderm & Skinny Dips. Our beginnings are a humble one and, in a statistics sense – an anomaly.
Those that are close to the company know that we originally started our venture as VOiD Games, releasing mobile games on the iOS and Google Play App Stores. With a melting pot of skillsets, we also saw opportunities (and more sure-fire ways to survive) in the realms of digital marketing, specifically Website Design and Application Development.
As the company endured its growing pains and pivoted its aims as a business, it cannot be understated that the help and support provided by the SPEED Plus Incubation program from which we were able to incorporate the business through, allowed us to weather the storm (literally, they provided an office and base of operations for businesses on their program to work from as well as a host of services that trained and made sure start-up businesses followed legal requirements). Success for a start-up business is never ensured; currently, NerdWallet reports that “20% of small businesses fail in their first year.” and “Around 60% of small businesses fail within the first three years.”
With an expanded roster and wind in our sails, VOiD is set to have its best year yet.
It’s with a battle-scarred Logo and glints of pride in our eyes that we can now look back on one of the most difficult periods for a business to survive and proclaim, “we did it”.
Along the way, we’ve made many friends; due to our relationship with the SPEED Plus Program, Wolverhampton College, and Universities in the Midlands area, we were able to give students and graduates the opportunity to work with us via Work Experience and, later, official work placements so those looking for work in our industries could get their feet wet. We provided something at the time that wasn’t common, and we ourselves missed out on when starting our journies. In all honesty, we needed the help. Thanks to the efforts of these amazing people, we learned how to nurture the talent that surrounded us and become the caring and responsible management team we are today.
Fast forward, and some of the friends we made became people we could outsource to, better yet, our trusted colleagues that make up VOiD today. Ketan, our residential graphic slinger, and all-around Zen Master started with us for work experience in 2016. Not long after, we were outsourcing work to him, and now he’s part of the team adding splashes of colour and character to the designs we dish out to our clients. Nathan began his time in VOiD with a placement year during his studies at Birmingham City University in 2017. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, he turned up in a suit for his interview, only to realise that VOiD is Business Loungewear. Nathan showed his prowess in making sure hamsters stayed on their wheels throughout his placement and directly after became a permanent and integral part of the team.
With an expanded roster and wind in our sails, VOiD is set to have its best year yet. The founders of the business, Chris Carter and Neil Cooper have a lot more to do and welcome the vast array of challenges that lie in wait.
Chris had this to say: “We started a business straight out of University, and through thick and thin, we’re still here to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. We have created a digital agency that continues to develop new skills and strives to produce the best results for our clients. In a competitive market, we are making our mark with our unique approach to the project process, which has led to 2022 being our strongest year for growth in all areas. I want to thank everyone who has worked with us, worked for us, and supported us in any way during this journey. We will continue to build our fantastic team and deliver Design and Development services to businesses across the country.”
Neil says: “To say this has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity would be an understatement. We’ve seen businesses come and go and never strayed away from the fact that could be us, but so far, it hasn’t, regardless of what’s been thrown at us. It’s a very different World now, but no matter the situation, we adapt and come out stronger. I’m proud to be able to say I’m part of the VOiD team and have helped build it to what it is today. It’s not a story you hear every day that friends get together and make a business, let alone one that’s successful with no prior… well, anything.”
